SUMMARY:Interviewing in industry - theory input
DESCRIPTION:Recruiting in and outside of academia is quite different. Interviews are often perceived as stressful. \nThis workshop teaches you how to prepare for an interview in industry. The focus is on the general parts of the interview: your motivation\, fit to company\, your career path so far\, etc. These are the parts where HR recruiters may be involved and that is often a cause for insecurities. Please note\, the workshop will not cover technical questions you may in counter if you interview for positions in software development or data science. \nIn addition to online theoretical input\, you get to do a mock-interview. The aim is to give you an experience that is close to reality. However\, after the interview you will get detailed constructive feedback to increase your confidence and help you improve your interview skills. This is something that you do not get in real life! \nChristine Mössler is just the person to do this. DESCRIPTION:Scientific Visualization with Adobe Illustrator — From Basics to Publication-Ready Figures \nThis introductory Adobe Illustrator workshop for scientists is crafted with two main goals. First\, it seeks to introduce the basic principles and techniques of Adobe Illustrator\, making them accessible and relevant to scientists. Second\, it aims to equip participants with the skills necessary to efficiently produce data figures that meet publication standards. Over the course of two afternoon sessions\, participants will: – gain familiarity with Adobe Illustrator\, learning to navigate its interface and organize documents effectively through artboards and layers – master essential techniques such as manipulating shapes\, using transformation tools\, aligning and organizing objects – learn advanced techniques including image and text handling\, clipping masks\, paths\, and the pen tool – participate in hands-on practice to craft a figure ready for publication\, including addressing common challenges when integrating diverse data into a cohesive visual narrative. \nAbout the trainer: \nDr. Belen Pacheco-Fiallos is a biochemist with a passion for visual science communication. She has been using Adobe Illustrator for 10+ years to create figures for research papers and reviews\, learning to efficiently craft multi-panel figures. She aims to share this knowledge with you with you so that you can focus on your next exciting experiment instead of manually changing colors. \nImportantly\, access to an Adobe Illustrator license is required. She also holds a doctorate degree in English Linguistics and is currently working towards her Doctorate in Didactics.
